Cooperating

This discipline is ideal for team players and probably the only racket sport variation in which you play together with your opponent to score points. Since you only get 2 minutes, you have to hurry to score as many rallies as possible, but at the same time you try to use as many different moves and passing techniques as you can to max out on variety and ultimately, your score. The points are kept by two field referees – one on each side of the court. The more uncontrolled and non-circular the pass, the greater the risk that the swing will not be executed technically correctly. Something you want to avoid, in order to make each point count 100%. This is the main referees tasks – to evaluate the quality of both your technical skills. The higher and more consistent your overall impression, the higher your actual score.

Rules

Aim

The two players face each other on the court, separated by a net. The aim of the game is to pass the ball to the other player on the court as often as possible within the set time frame using as many different types of swings as possible in a technique that conforms to BailongBall principles. One game lasts 2 minutes. 2 field referees count each player’s successfull swings (QT = Quantity of Techniques)  and the main referee evaluates the general quality (ST = Style of Techniques) of each player’s movements with a factor. At the end of the match, the quantity of each player’s successfull swings is multiplied by the diversity of swings (DT = Diversity of Techniques) and by the quality factor (exponentially):

QT * DT * ST² = Score per player

The resulting scores of the players are then added to arrive at the team’s score:

Score Player 1 + Score Player 2 = Team Score

In a competition, the team with the highest score wins.

The Court

  • The court is 11.88m long and 5.18m wide
  • The entire court should be free-standing within a radius of at least 1m
  • The ceiling height must be at least 6m
  • All lines are at least 2cm thick.
  • The center line separates the court into two equal halves
  • The net is stretched above the centerline
  • Net height is 1.75m in the center and may be a maximum of 1.80m at the outer edges

The Referees (a total of 3)

  • 1 main referee – tasks:
    • Counting of successfull swings per player (QT)
    • Assessing quality of swings per player (ST)
    • Timekeeping
    • Ruling on errors (player out of bounds, travelling with ball, etc.)
  • 2 field referees (one each court half) – tasks (exclusively with respect to each half / player):
    • Counting swing varieties executed (DT)
    • Indicating when player steps on a base line or outside of court bounds, while in control of the ball

General rules

DT
Each field referee covers one half of the court and records the number of different swings made by the player on his own half of the court. One point is awarded for each swing made in one of the following different swing types (for a maximum total of 21 points per player):
  1. Forehand – high
  2. Forehand – low
  3. Forehand – jumped
  4. Backhand – high
  5. Backhand – low
  6. In front of the body – left
  7. In front of the body – right
  8. Diagonal – left
  9. Diagonal – right
  10. Diagonal – left, jumped
  11. Diagonal – right, jumped
  12. Head level – left
  13. Head level – right
  14. Shoulder level – left
  15. Shoulder level – right
  16. Under a leg
  17. Behind the back – left
  18. Behind the back – right

QT

All successfully and error free (see below) swung balls, that cross over the net and land in the opposite court count as one point for the player who swung them.

The serve does not count as far as scoring. Balls that touch the floor on the receiving court half, count.

If the ball hits the ground, goes out of bounds, etc., time continues to run. So there are no interruptions.

If the ball touches the floor of the court or if the ball goes out of bounds, the game continues with a serve from the back-area.

If the ball hits the ground, goes out of bounds, etc., the clock keeps ticking. So there are no interruptions.

ST
The main referee evaluates the players’ movements according to the following quality factor:
  • flawless technique 100%
  • some minor mistakes 90%
  • some irregular movements 80%
  • mostly irregular movements 60%
Rating
At the end of the 2 minutes, the main referee multiplies the number of swings counted by the respective field referee for each player, which in turn is multiplied by the number of different types of swings played, by the quality factor of the respective player determined by the main referee. The weighted points of both players are then added together:

( Number of successful swings player 1
* Number of different swing types played by player 1
* (Quality factor of swings / movements player 1)²
)
+
( Number of successful swings player 2
* Number of different types of swings played by player 2
* (Quality factor of swings / movements player 2)²
)

Wich is the equivalent of the short version mentioned at the beginning of the rules section:

(QT * DT * ST² of player 1) + (QT * DT * ST² of player 2)

Serve

The player serves from within the back-area of his court half. At least one foot must stay in constant contact with the ground during the serve. One hand throws the ball high and to the back, whereby the ball must cover a distance of at least 30cm. The other hand holds the racquet and receives the ball with it. In a round movement, the ball is then played over the net to the other side of the court. Only the high and low flying serve (high forehand and backhand) are allowed.
Incorrect Serves
  • the player does not stand in the dedicated serve area or on the separating line
  • the player does not throw the ball clearly beyond 30cm
  • the player moves both feet during the serve, losing contact with the ground
  • the player jumps up or turns the racket during the serve
  • the player applies an incorrect swing technique after the ball is on the racquet blade, such as:
    • interrupted swings
    • pushing, shaking or lifting the ball
  • the ball does not reach the racket blade or it cannot be released out of the racket
  • the ball does not cross over the net or is stopped by the net
  • the ball touches the ground outside the prescribed area
  • the ball touches other objects (except the net) after the serve, such as body and clothing parts of the own team
  • The high throw-in and low let-out swing technique is not used

Errors

Incorrect swings are not counted – neither as QT, nor as DT points. They include:
  • Touching the line with at least one foot or standing out of bounds while the ball is on the racquet
  • “Running” – moving both feet while swinging the ball (however, moving one foot or jumping up with both feet at the same time while the ball is on the racquet is permitted)
  • Swinging the ball out of bounds or into the net
The following must also be observed:
  • Additional balls may not be held in the hand or carried in a bag on the body. Only one ball is permitted within the entire playing area.
  • 5 spare balls may be placed at the edge of the field / outside the base line.

Quality of Execution

If the swing process and the swing technique contain serious errors in the form of shaking, lifting, pushing, hitting, wrist force, interrupted swing, etc., this reduces the quality factor. The respective gradations described under “Quality factor” are rooted in the general conformity of BailongBall movements.

Deuce

If in a competition teams end up with identical scores , the ranking will be determined according to the following order:

  1. The fewest ball losses
  2. The higher quality factor (= ST player A + ST player B)

If there is still a tie after the two criteria, a re-match over 2 minutes of all teams that are tied will decide the placement.

Game Idea And Explanation

You need a court with a net and a teammate. Your goal is to pass the balls over the net as often as you can to score points together. The more difficult the move, the more points you score with it. You follow the balls in their trajectory, deflect them and swing them back. If you like, you can play against other teams – the team to score the most points in 2 minutes wins.

Your goal is to score as many points as you can in as many rallies as possible with your partner within 2 minutes. Each time the ball crosses the net you score up to 3 points, depending on the difficulty of the swing. Serves do not count, but all others do, including the balls that touch the ground. But not only the points you collect count, but also the technical execution of the swings or movements. With a clean technique your points count 100%. However, the worse the technique, the more will be deducted from your points (up to 40%).

This discipline is ideal for team players and probably the only racket sport variation in which you play together with your opponent to score points. Since you only get 2 minutes, you have to hurry to score as many rallies as possible, but at the same time you try to use challenging moves and passing techniques to score high per rally. The points are kept by two scorekeepers – one on each side of the court. The more difficult the technique, however, the greater the risk that you will not execute the swing correctly. Something you want to avoid, so you don’t get punished by point deduction. This is the main referees tasks – to evaluate the quality of both your technical skills. The higher and more consistent your overall impression, the higher your actual score.

Rules

Two players form a team facing each other on the court, separated by a net. The aim of the game is to pass the ball to the other player as many times as possible within the given time frame. One game lasts 2 minutes. 2 scorekeepers evaluate the players’ movements with points according to their level of difficulty and the main referee evaluates the general quality of each player’s movements with a factor. At the end of the match, the points scored are multiplied by the quality factor to arrive at the team’s score. In a competition, the team with the highest score wins.

General rules
Scoring & Evaluation
Each scorekeeper covers one half of the court at a time and scores the player’s movements / swings on their own half of the court. Scoring is based on a scale of 1 to 3 according to the level of difficulty of each swing / movement:

1 point – basic techniques:

  • high and low forehand
  • high and low backhand
  • high and low bachhand with the side grip
  • left – and right swing in front of the body

2 points – hidden techniques

  • left and right behind the head
  • left and right behind the shoulder
  • behind the body
  • under the arms
  • under the legs
  • left and right rotations performed on both legs
  • low forehand and backhand leapt

3 points – advanced techniques

  • left and right rotations [360°] performed leapt or on one supporting leg
  • Leapt swings behind the body, behind the shoulder or behind the head
  • The serve does not count as far as scoring. Balls that hit the floor count.

The main referee evaluates the players’ movements according to the following quality factor:

  • flawless technique 100%
  • some minor mistakes 90%
  • some irregular movements 80%
  • mostly irregular movements 60%

At the end of the 2 minutes, the main referee multiplies each player’s score recorded by the respective scorekeeper, with the quality factor of the respective player determined by the main referee. The weighted points of both players are then added up, to form the ovrall team score.

Serve

The serve takes place upon the main referee’s signal / blowing of the whistle.

The player serves in the dedicated area. At least one foot must stay in constant contact with the ground during the serve. One hand throws the ball high and to the back, whereby the ball must cover a distance of at least 30cm. The other hand lets in the ball with the racquet. By a correct execution of the round swing process, the ball is played over the net to the other side. Only the high and low flying serve (high forehand and backhand) is allowed.
Incorrect Serves
  • the player does not stand in the dedicated serve area or on the separating line
  • the player does not throw the ball clearly beyond 30cm
  • the player moves both feet during the serve, losing contact with the ground
  • the player jumps up or turns the racket during the serve
the player applies an incorrect swing technique after the ball is on the racquet blade, such as:
    • interrupted swings
    • pushing, shaking or lifting the ball
  • the ball does not reach the racket blade or it cannot be released out of the racket
  • the ball does not cross over the net or is stopped by the net
  • the ball touches the ground outside the prescribed area
  • the ball touches other objects (except the net) after the serve, such as body and clothing parts of the own team
  • The high throw-in and low let-out swing technique is not used

Technical Evaluation of Execution

Serious errors during swinging / the movement include shaking, lifting, pushing, hitting, flinging of the wrist, interrupted swing, etc. Such errors are considered a “fault” and will not be counted by the scorekeepers. Also, balls not crossing the net into the opposite court half do not count. All other swings / movements count and will be weighed by the quality factor, after the end of the game.

Deuce

If in a competition teams end up with identical scores , the ranking will be determined according to the following order:

  1. The fewest ball losses
  2. The higher quality factor (=technique player A + technique player B)

If there is still a tie after the two criteria, a re-match over 2 minutes of all teams that are tied will decide the placement.
